Careers

In February we hosted the first Edinburgh Geography Networking Careers Fair to celebrate the 85th anniversary of GeogSoc!

Over 16 companies attended, talking to over 50 students about the opportunities their companies can offer students during their degree and after graduation. There was also opportunity to network with fellow Geography peers and have a professional LinkedIn headshot taken.

Companies in attendance included: HSBC, Morgan Stanley, Teach First, Unilever, SEPA and many more!

Bright Network are partnered with over 250 leading employers and aim to connect their members to employers across all sectors through events, advice and networking opportunities!

GeogSoc have recently partnered with Bright Network to make sure our members have the best accesses to materials and resources to build their professional and personal skills as well as early access to high-demand careers events. We are looking forward to building our relationship with Bright Network and bringing the best advice and opportunities possible to GeogSoc members.

The Royal Geographical Society’s Ambassador’s scheme is a great opportunity to further your communication skills by going in to schools to promote Geography as a subject to take at Higher education. If you want to pursue a career in education, outreach or further your communication skills this is a great opportunity to do so!

Each year we host an Royal Geographical Society representative who visits Edinburgh to give a training session to Edinburgh University students, the training aims to provide you with everything you need to feel confident in your new role and is a lively, fun and hands-on way of getting acquainted with the scheme. If you are looking for an internship the scheme is a great opportunity as those who take part in the training day are more likely to be accepted on to an RGS internship.
